MEET YOUR CANDIDATE

Rachel Atwood holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and in Bible/Theology. Rachel has a background in advocating for children, students, the autism community, and protecting the ability of professionals to exercise their deeply held convictions and religious beliefs in the workplace.

Rachel is currently employed with the Michigan House of Representatives, and volunteers with multiple nonprofit organizations related to parental rights, individual freedoms, and American values. Rachel is married and has two children. Her family actively serves in a local church and is a strong supporter of the Pregnancy Resource Center.

Five years ago, when her special needs son was denied appropriate education due to his individualized medical needs, Rachel became involved in professional advocacy work for children with special needs and issues related to medical freedom. Her advocacy is comprised of volunteer work for multiple organizations including Restore Freedom (with Constitutional Attorney Katherine Henry), Stand Up Michigan, Ottawa Impact, and Michigan for Vaccine Choice for which she is currently the West Michigan Director of Outreach.

As a Legislative Aide in the Michigan House of Representatives, Rachel also advocates for Michigan voters, both reviewing and helping to create bills that aim to promote parental rights, restrict government overreach, lower taxes, and support medical freedom. Her work allows her to see upcoming issues at the state level that affect the county level. Rachel understands that as an elected county commissioner, her oath of office will be to the Constitution, and she will support individual freedoms and protect parental rights. Rachel understands that free speech, the right to bear arms, and your right to not be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process are under attack, and she is ready to stand in the gap to protect your rights.

Rachel currently serves as Secretary to the Board of Directors for R.E.A.C.T. (Research and Education for Autistic Children’s Treatment). The board consists of gifted and notable frontline doctors working to fund research and promote therapy. Rachel has travelled the United States representing the R.E.A.C.T. board at medical conferences, learning doctors’ best and healthiest approaches to achieving optimum health and the latest techniques for helping special needs children.

Rachel has built a presence on social media, notably Facebook, using videos to educate and inform her followers on local and state politics. Her unique brand includes the use of puppets, which were inspired by and belong to her son. During the Covid-19 shutdown, when her son began to regress socially and verbally, Rachel began using puppets to replace the education speech therapy he was denied when it was deemed “non-essential.” Amazed by how effectively the puppets increased her son’s engagement, Rachel introduced them as a social media tool, allowing her followers to laugh and learn as she helps them navigate the times.

In recognition for her involvement and advocacy work over the last three years, Rachel was recognized as a 2023 Award Recipient from the Republican Women’s Federation of Michigan.
